Australia Welcomes Young Indians with 1,000 Annual Work and Holiday Visas

In a significant move ahead of the Diwali festivities, Australia has announced the availability of 1,000 new visas annually under the 'Working Holiday Maker Program' for young Indians aged between 18 and 30. This initiative aims to provide young Indians with an opportunity to travel, work, and study in Australia, enriching their understanding of the country's culture and lifestyle. The announcement was made by Australia’s Assistant Minister of Immigration, Matt Thistlethwaite, during a press event in the bustling Khan Market of New Delhi. He emphasised the importance of this program, stating, “We are launching the ‘Working Holiday Maker’ visa, which allows 1,000 young Indians to experience life in Australia while working and studying. This program not only facilitates personal growth but also fosters a deeper understanding of our culture.” The new visa allocation will be awarded annually through a fair ballot system, with applications for the first visa ballot for India, along with those from China and Vietnam, opening on October 1. Interested candidates must register before the ballot closes on October 30. Thistlethwaite highlighted that the ballot process is designed to ensure equity and transparency, allowing a diverse group of applicants from partner countries to be randomly selected for these valuable opportunities. “This streamlined approach aims to provide a clear and accessible pathway for young individuals eager to explore Australia while gaining work experience,” he added. The Working Holiday Maker Program is part of a broader strategy to enhance international collaboration and cultural exchange between Australia and India.
