After Hong Kong residents complained about parallel trading, which resulted in weeks of street protests due to a spike in the number of persons purchasing daily essentials in Hong Kong to resell on the mainland, the system was changed in 2015 with a one-trip-per-week limit.In an attempt to boost its faltering tourism sector, the Hong Kong administration recently requested Beijing to reinstate the multiple-entry visa. Given Hong Kong's declining appeal to Chinese tourists and the mainland's economic recession, it's uncertain how much of an impact the new regulations will have.
