Crown Agents Bank (CAB), a UK-based financial institution specializing in foreign exchange (FX) and cross-border payment services, has announced a strategic partnership with Visa to enhance cross-border payment solutions for clients in emerging markets. The collaboration aims to address the complexities and costs associated with "last mile" payment processes, particularly in regions where financial transactions are often hindered by regulatory challenges and high-risk assessments.By integrating its extensive network with Visa Direct, Visa's real-time payment service, Crown Agents Bank seeks to facilitate the movement of lower-value payments across emerging markets more cost-effectively. This partnership is expected to significantly optimize the management of large volumes of small transactions, which typically face additional costs in these markets due to their perceived high-risk nature by jurisdictional regulators.Visa Direct’s global network boasts over 8.5 billion endpoints, including accounts, digital wallets, and cards, across more than 190 countries and territories. This vast reach complements CAB's own extensive network, which supports more than 100 currency types across over 700 currency pairs. Last year, CAB facilitated £9.3 billion in financial flows into lower-income markets and managed £3.1 billion in development aid flows, underscoring its pivotal role in supporting economic growth in these regions.Neeraj Kapur, CEO of Crown Agents Bank, highlighted the significance of the partnership, stating, "Our combined capabilities and expertise mean we’re able to reduce the cost and friction associated with moving money across hard-to-reach markets. This collaboration with Visa aligns with our mission to provide efficient, secure, and affordable financial services to clients in emerging markets."This partnership follows similar developments in the fintech industry, with other UK-based banks like Revolut recently integrating Visa Direct to enhance their instant card transfer capabilities for business customers. As the demand for seamless cross-border payments continues to grow, partnerships like that of CAB and Visa are set to play a crucial role in enabling financial inclusion and economic development in emerging markets.
