Teachers in Dubai's private education sector who have demonstrated exceptional dedication and excellence will soon be eligible for the prestigious Golden Visa. Announced in celebration of World Teachers’ Day on October 5, 2024, the UAE government revealed that applications for the Golden Residency for Distinguished Educators will open on October 15, 2024.Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of The Executive Council, directed that these long-term visas be offered to distinguished teachers as a gesture of appreciation for their contributions to education in Dubai.
What is Dubai’s Golden Visa?
The Golden Visa is a long-term residence permit that allows foreign professionals to live, work, or study in the UAE without requiring a local sponsor. Initially introduced to attract skilled talent, the visa is available to investors, entrepreneurs, scientists, exceptional students, and now, distinguished teachers.
Benefits of the Golden Visa
Golden Visa holders receive various benefits, including:
A six-month entry visa with multiple entries to facilitate residency.
A renewable residence visa valid for 5 or 10 years.
No requirement for a local sponsor.
Permission to stay outside the UAE for more than six months without losing residency status.
The ability to sponsor family members regardless of their age.
The option to employ an unlimited number of domestic helpers.
Family members can remain in the UAE even if the Golden Visa holder passes away, until their permit expires.
Golden Visa for Teachers
Eligible educators include those working in early childhood centres, private schools, and international higher education institutions in Dubai. Selection criteria include:
Student performance and outcomes.
Peer and community feedback.
Contributions to enhancing the quality of education in Dubai.
This initiative aligns with the Dubai Education Strategy 2033, which aims to attract educators who inspire and promote excellence. "Teachers are the source of inspiration for today’s generations and tomorrow’s leaders," said Sheikh Hamdan, emphasising their vital role in shaping Dubai's future.
Indian Educators’ Role in UAE Schools
The Indian community plays a prominent role in the UAE’s educational sector, particularly in the Northern Emirates, where 76 schools follow the Indian curriculum. During the 2023-2024 academic year, 83% of students in Dubai’s Indian curriculum schools received an education rated as "good" or higher. Of the 32 private schools inspected:
1 school was rated “Outstanding.”
10 schools were rated “Very Good.”
14 schools were rated “Good.”
The UAE has long attracted Indian educators, launching a recruitment drive in 2019 to fill teaching positions in government schools. Indian teachers have been offered competitive salaries, significantly higher than the average in India, as part of efforts to enhance the quality of education in the UAE.With the introduction of the Golden Visa for teachers, the UAE reaffirms its commitment to recognizing and investing in educators who play a pivotal role in shaping future generations.
