The new "cascade" visa regime now allows Indian nationals to obtain long-term, multi-entry Schengen visas more easily, provided they meet certain criteria.
Criteria for Eligibility
Under the new rules, Indian citizens who have successfully obtained and used two Schengen visas within the past three years can apply for a two-year multi-entry visa. If they continue to meet the requirements and successfully use this two-year visa, they will then be eligible to apply for a five-year multi-entry visa, given their passport has sufficient remaining validity.

This policy shift is part of the broader EU-India Common Agenda on Migration and Mobility, an initiative designed to strengthen cooperation on migration policies and enhance people-to-people contacts between the EU and India. Enhanced Travel Flexibility
Holders of these new long-term visas will enjoy travel rights similar to those of visa-free nationals within the Schengen area. They will be able to travel freely for short stays of up to 90 days within any 180-day period across 29 European countries, including 25 EU member states and four non-EU countries: Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, and Switzerland.
