The reports, which have suggested that the ban was enacted in response to the students' "anti-India" sentiments, have been labelled as "fake news" by official sources in New Delhi.The claims originated from a Bengali-language news outlet in Bangladesh, which reported on September 1 that the Indian government had restricted visas for the six student leaders. According to these reports, the action was taken due to the students' involvement in stirring up anti-India sentiments.However, Indian officials have firmly rejected these allegations. They have characterised the reports as unfounded and misleading.The confusion comes in the wake of significant political upheaval in Bangladesh. A student-led resistance movement, which began in July, has led to widespread unrest, culminating in the fall of Sheikh Hasina's government. The former Prime Minister fled to India on August 5, amidst the ongoing turmoil.The Indian government has not provided further comments on the political situation in Bangladesh but has reiterated its stance on the visa ban reports, emphasising that they are without merit.
