In response to the escalating security situation in Bangladesh, all Indian Visa Application Centers (IVACs) across the country have been closed indefinitely. This move follows the evacuation of non-essential staff and families of the Indian High Commission in Dhaka back to India.A notice posted on the visa centres' official website stated, "All IVACs will remain closed until further notice due to the unstable situation. The next application date will be communicated via SMS. Please collect your passport on the next working day."
Growing Security Concerns
The decision to reduce India’s diplomatic presence in Bangladesh signals significant concern from the Indian government over the deteriorating law and order situation. The recent unrest has seen attacks on Awami League leaders, their homes, and security personnel. There have also been reports of vandalism, including the defacing of statues of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, and mobs invading key government buildings such as the Prime Minister’s residence and parliament.
Government Response and Monitoring
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar informed the Rajya Sabha that the Indian government is closely monitoring the situation, particularly the safety of minorities in Bangladesh. He also mentioned that Indian students studying in Bangladesh have been safely returned to India with assistance from the Indian Embassy.

He urged all citizens to remain calm and to avoid engaging in any form of violence during these challenging times.
