India's New Law Addresses Illegal Immigration and Promotes Safe Migration

After the United States deported more than 100 Indian nationals, the Indian government is exploring a new rule to encourage safe and regular travel for jobs abroad. Addressing unlawful immigration and enhancing migrant workers' welfare are the goals of the planned Overseas Mobility (Facilitation and Welfare) Bill, of 2024. Experts talk about the dangers and difficulties encountered by migrants seeking better prospects as more people migrate through perilous routes like the Darien Gap. A new law that would guarantee "safe, orderly, and regular migration for overseas employment" is being seriously considered by the Indian government. This comes after more than 100 Indian migrants were deported by the US in a previous instance. Their deportation generated intense discussion on the treatment of deportees and the procedures employed, as these individuals were part of a broader crackdown on illegal immigration. The Overseas Mobility (Facilitation and Welfare) Bill, of 2024, is a proposed law that seeks to provide a framework for safer and more organized migration management. The Parliamentary Standing Committee on External Affairs' head, Shashi Tharoor, stated that this measure will enhance the welfare of foreign workers and encourage lawful migration. Discussions on the matter began when Tharoor presented the report to the Lok Sabha.
