This law replaces immigration rules that had been in place for over six decades. The aim is to improve visa processes, expand resident rights, and crack down on illegal activities.
Key Changes:
Visit Visa Duration Increased: Foreign visitors can now stay in Kuwait for up to 3 months, instead of the previous 1-month limit.
Newborn Registration Time Extended: Parents now have 4 months to register a foreign-born child and apply for residency, up from the earlier 2 months.
Lost Passport Reporting Extended: Foreigners have 14 days to report a lost passport, compared to the earlier 3-day window.
Kuwaiti Women Can Sponsor Family: Kuwaiti women (by birth) can now sponsor their non-Kuwaiti husbands and children, granting them residency rights.
Approved investors,can apply for 10 to 15 years of residency.
Stricter Penalties Introduced:
Overstaying Visa: Up to 1 year in jail and fines between KD 1,000 and KD 2,000.
Visa Trading or Hiding Illegal Migrants: Up to 2 years imprisonment and fines up to KD 10,000.
