New Zealand is urging international students planning to study in the country in 2025 to begin their visa applications as early as possible. With the peak processing period for study visas set to commence in October, prospective students are advised to submit their applications at least three months prior to their expected start date to ensure timely processing.During the October to February period, which sees a surge in applications, processing times can extend significantly. Currently, the average wait time for a study visa is five weeks for those attending universities, as of August 2024.International students are encouraged to apply early to maximise their chances of receiving a decision in time for their studies. The most common types of student visas include:
Fee Paying Student Visa (including English language students)
Pathway Student Visa
MFAT-funded NZ Scholarship Student Visa
Exchange Student Visa
It is important for students who may not have all necessary documentation to apply as soon as they receive their required paperwork. However, late applications risk not being processed in time for the start of the academic year.Due to the expected influx of visa applications, New Zealand Immigration will not be able to reach out to students regarding missing documents. Applications lacking essential information may face denial.Additionally, the New Zealand government announced on August 9, 2024, that visa fees and levies will increase starting October 1, 2024, further emphasising the importance of early application.
