The Higher Education Authority (HEA) in Ireland provided the insights that formed the basis of the study.Enrollment of Indian students increased by about 50% annually, making up 18% of all international students.For the first time, Indian students now make up the majority of Ireland's foreign population.Among international students studying in Ireland in 2023–2024, the most popular subjects were Health and Welfare, Business, Administration and Law, Arts and Humanities, Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs), Engineering, Manufacturing and Construction, Natural Sciences, Mathematics and Statistics, Social Sciences, Journalism and Information, Education, Generic Programs and Qualifications, and Services. ICT programs had a 65 percent increase in international enrollment, making it the field with the greatest rate of growth. Given Ireland's high demand for computer skills, ICT may soon overtake all other academic fields as the most popular choice for overseas students.Nearly one-third of all international students are now enrolled in postgraduate programs, including master's degrees, which is a considerable rise from just 21% in 2016–17. Ireland is a strong option to countries like the US, UK, and Canada because of its low cost of living, good employability rates, and two-year post-study work visa for master's graduates, according to the survey. The nation's booming IT industry, top-notch education, and wide range of academic programs all contribute to its allure for Indian students. Additionally, Ireland's welcoming immigration policies and streamlined visa processes have made it an even more attractive destination for Indian students. The Irish government actively supports international talent, offering pathways to long-term employment and residency for graduates with in-demand skills. Many Indian students also appreciate Ireland’s rich cultural heritage, English-speaking environment, and strong Indian community, which helps ease the transition to life abroad. Furthermore, partnerships between Irish universities and global corporations provide students with valuable internship opportunities, increasing their chances of securing high-paying jobs after graduation.
