Thailand has significantly expanded its electronic visa (e-Visa) system, now available at 59 Thai embassies and consulates-general worldwide. This move is part of an effort to streamline the visa application process for international travellers, allowing them to apply for visas online without the need to visit an embassy or consulate in person.Previously available in only 23 countries across 38 consular offices, the expanded e-Visa service now spans countries in North America, Latin America, Europe, Asia, Africa, and Oceania.According to the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs, "Thailand’s e-Visa services are now accessible at 59 embassies and consulates-general. Foreign applicants residing in areas covered by these diplomatic missions can apply for an e-Visa atwww.thaievisa.go.th."
Visa Exemptions and Future Plans
As of July 15, 2024, Thailand grants visa exemptions to citizens from 93 countries and territories, allowing them to stay for up to 60 days without a visa. This period can be extended by an additional 30 days on-site. Moreover, Thailand plans to introduce an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) system by 2025 for visa-exempt visitors, although no specific date has been confirmed.
