This policy, which was initially scheduled to expire on November 11, 2024, now permits Indian tourists to enter Thailand for a maximum of 60 days without a visa. They can choose to remain an extra 30 days at a local immigration office.The Royal Thai Embassy in New Delhi confirmed to Business Standard that officers had been instructed to maintain the visa-free policy, which was announced by the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT). “Visa-free entry extension instructions have been given to us,” an embassy official told Business Standard, adding, “We have not been told when this facility will end for Indians.”
Thailand eases path for Indian tourists
Since its implementation in November 2023, the visa-free entry policy has been a big draw for Indian travellers seeking places with low visa restrictions. According to Krishna Rathi, senior country director for India at Agoda, "Indian travellers are increasingly looking for destinations that offer convenience and a variety of experiences without enduring extensive visa procedures." Since the implementation of the policy, Thailand has emerged as the most popular visa-free travel destination for Indians, as seen by an increase in searches for lodging.Similar trends have been observed in Malaysia, which in December 2023 waived visas for Indian visitors, helping it move up from eighth to fourth place in the list of Indian travellers' top destinations in the first half of 2024. "Removing visa restrictions makes a huge difference to inbound tourism, and we see this across the globe," said Omri Morgenshtern, CEO of Agoda.

All that is required of travellers is a current passport, which is examined and stamped at immigration control. With the visa-free policy playing a major role in this boom, TAT expects over 2 million Indian visitors by year's end, bringing in close to 90 billion baht.
