As federal agencies celebrated arrests around the country, top Trump administration officials, including "border czar" Tom Homan, traveled to Chicago on Sunday to supervise stepped-up immigration enforcement actions. Agents of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) arrested 286 people on Saturday and 956 people countrywide on Sunday.Acting Deputy Attorney General Emil Bove reported that while in Chicago, he saw immigration officers from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), as well as agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), the F.B., and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). The operation, which took place days after the DHS extended immigration jurisdiction to Department of Justice organizations like the DEA and ATF, was not described by him.According to the Washington Post, President Donald Trump is calling on ICE to raise daily arrests to at least 1,200 to 1,500 because he is dissatisfied with the outcome of his mass deportation operations thus far. Since Trump's inauguration, ICE has made 433 arrests every day on average; on Sunday, that number nearly doubled.

We must offer them a chance to lawfully remain in our nation. ICE officers' arrest quotas are "a bad idea," according to William Enyar. Chicago Police personnel are prohibited from collaborating with ICE agents due to the "Illinois Trust Act," which restricts municipal engagement with federal immigration enforcement.Homan contends that if local law enforcement were permitted to work more closely with ICE to target high-priority offenders, ICE wouldn't need to make these kinds of neighborhood arrests.
